Overview

Nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG) are the gold-standard electrodiagnostic tests for evaluating peripheral nervous system disorders. They precisely measure the speed and strength of electrical signals along nerves and the electrical activity within muscles.

Dr. Bharath Kumar Surisetti offers comprehensive NCS and EMG services with detailed clinical correlation. Whether investigating diabetic neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, radiculopathy or neuromuscular disease, the results guide accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment planning.

Symptoms & Conditions We Treat

Peripheral Neuropathy

Numbness, tingling or burning in feet and hands from diabetic or idiopathic nerve damage

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Median nerve compression causing wrist pain, numbness and thenar wasting

Muscle Weakness

Progressive weakness due to motor nerve or neuromuscular junction disorders

Foot Drop

Peroneal nerve palsy causing difficulty lifting the foot during walking

Radiculopathy

Nerve root compression from disc herniation causing radiating limb pain and weakness

Neuromuscular Disorders

Myasthenia gravis, Guillain-Barré and motor neurone disease requiring electrodiagnostic evaluation

Our Treatment Approach

1

Clinical Neurological Assessment

Detailed history and physical examination to map the pattern of sensory, motor or reflex abnormalities.

2

NCS Protocol Design

Selection of appropriate nerve conduction studies based on the suspected diagnosis and nerve distribution.

3

EMG if Indicated

Needle electromyography to assess muscle denervation, reinnervation and neuromuscular junction function.

4

Report and Management Plan

Detailed electrodiagnostic report with clinical correlation and a targeted treatment or referral plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

NCS measures the speed and strength of electrical signals in nerves. It diagnoses carpal tunnel syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, radiculopathy, and neuromuscular junction disorders.

EMG records electrical activity inside muscles using a fine needle. Combined with NCS it identifies whether weakness comes from a nerve, muscle, or neuromuscular junction problem.

NCS involves mild electrical stimuli — briefly uncomfortable. EMG uses a fine needle — similar discomfort to a blood test. No anaesthesia needed.

Usually 30–60 minutes. Results are explained by Dr. Bharath Kumar immediately after the test.

Avoid lotion/oil on hands and feet. Continue all medications unless told otherwise. Wear loose clothing. No fasting required.
