Overview

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the myelin sheath protecting nerve fibres, causing inflammation, demyelination and progressive neurological disability.

Dr. Bharath Kumar Surisetti provides complete MS care including diagnostic MRI evaluation, initiation of disease-modifying therapies (DMTs), relapse management with steroids, and long-term monitoring to preserve neurological function.

Symptoms & Conditions We Treat

Visual Disturbance

Optic neuritis causing painful vision loss or double vision

Numbness/Tingling

Sensory symptoms in limbs, face or trunk

Weakness and Spasticity

Limb weakness, spasticity and gait difficulties

Fatigue

Debilitating MS fatigue disproportionate to activity

Cognitive Changes

Memory, concentration and processing speed difficulties

Bladder/Bowel

Urgency, frequency or incontinence common in MS

Our Treatment Approach

1

Diagnostic MRI and CSF Analysis

Brain and spinal cord MRI with gadolinium, plus lumbar puncture for oligoclonal bands where needed.

2

Disease Classification

Determining MS type (RRMS, PPMS, SPMS) to guide DMT selection.

3

DMT Initiation

Prescribing appropriate disease-modifying therapy based on disease activity and patient factors.

4

Relapse Management

IV methylprednisolone for relapses and adjustment of long-term DMT as disease evolves.

Frequently Asked Questions

MS is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks myelin — the nerve fibre coating — disrupting signals in the brain and spinal cord.

Symptoms vary: fatigue, vision problems (optic neuritis), numbness/tingling, limb weakness, balance problems, bladder dysfunction, and cognitive difficulties.

Diagnosis requires MRI brain and spine showing lesions, CSF oligoclonal bands, and visual evoked potentials — following the McDonald criteria.

No cure yet, but disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) significantly reduce relapses and slow disability progression. Early treatment gives the best long-term outcomes.

Vaccinations are generally safe in MS and do not cause relapses. In fact, preventing infections makes vaccination important for MS patients.
