Common causes: BPPV (inner ear crystals), vestibular neuritis, low blood pressure, anaemia, hypoglycaemia, anxiety, Meniere's disease, and less commonly stroke or cerebellar disease.
Seek urgent care if giddiness is with sudden severe headache, double vision, facial weakness, slurred speech, difficulty walking — these are red flags for stroke.
Evaluation includes Dix-Hallpike test for BPPV, MRI brain, audiometry, blood pressure measurement, and blood tests (Hb, sugar, thyroid).
Most cases are fully treatable. BPPV resolves with the Epley manoeuvre. Vestibular neuritis improves with exercises. Other causes treated by addressing the underlying condition.
